I have one thing I don't like about my 17 FZ10 and that is the ticking engine sound. Cold or hot, it's loud. I can easily hear it thru my helmet.
I have 1100 miles now, so it's broken in and still the same.
I need to see what the dealer says.
Otherwise, awesome bike.
Yep mine is ticking away at start up also. 2,200 miles later it's slightly louder. I had this same issue on my new 09 cross plane R1. It started at about 1100 mi. They had a customer complain recall on the cam chain tensioner. If a Customer complains only on the noise, but not a actual recall. If a customer complained about the noise they put a new updated cam chain tensioner in. I do have slight concerns on my FZ10's tensioner also. Time will tell. It goes away after warm any way.
Have you guys had any dealer feedback on your engines ticking? I've read a lot on the R1 forums that the noise isn't indicative of a failing cam chain tensioner, but more of a normal byproduct of the finger-follower valve actuators. Some have also said that it's normal and only audible on the FZ-10 because it's a naked (I don't buy it). My bike started ticking recently, but I haven't had a chance to bring it to the shop. The ticking is louder sometimes than others but it doesn't correspond with variances in engine temp. The sound is uniform from one side of the engine to the other and changes consistent with changing rpm's. So I'm fairly confident it's not the CCT. Either way, I'm used to my CBR's whisper quiet valve train, so the audible ticking is a little unsettling. I should be able to get to the dealer next weekend. If anyone hears anything from their dealer, please share it on here. I'm curious what they have to say.

I'm usually the first one to have everything that people mention go wrong on their bikes, but it may just be that over time and the military my hearing has become way less then perfect and I may not hear the ticking myself, but so far I haven't heard anything strange but I also only have a bit over 135 miles on the clock.

Stopped into Dealer with my FZ10 on Friday 03/17/2017 in the afternoon. They called the Yamaha line for techs, but got voice mail as I was told.
My dealer is closed Mondays, so see if I hear anything tomorrow.
I must say, that here, the day I took it in, it was 89 degrees and bike was super hot and the tick was not very noticeable. Still will follow up on what Yamaha says.
Cold start the day after and yep, still loud.

Paint

Anyone with the '17 armor grey/neon yellow wheels notice how cheap the paint on the wheels is? I'm constantly cleaning them of course and notice how thin the paint coverage is. I can see a power coat in my near future.

I had read about someone else having issues with the Neon color coming off, so what I did when I first got the bike was use a product that I use on my Shelby for paint protection. Chemical Guys sells it and it is a paint sealant. Its call Jet Seal. So I used it on the neon rims being careful not to get any on the tires, and once set up, clean up is easy and my rims are looking good.
That just me. I am sure there are other ways of caring for these Attention getting Rims.
Be careful of any sprays or chemicals around the tires.

Got a reply from my Yamaha Dealer Today on the ticking Engine noise.
They said Yamaha has not had any failures and that at this time, they are saying it's normal operation.
So nothing more can be done.
I guess just need loud exhaust.

Well, here's to flogging the piss out of my bike while it's still under warranty. You know, just in case it's not normal operation.

I normally don't do the "extended" warranty stuff but I decided to go with the Factory Yamaha extended warranty that ended up costing 900.00 for a total of five years warranty. I figure that way I have a good resale value as well if I sell it within that time and as well I never liked just a 12 month warranty myself.

Things I do not like = The mirrors are useless as I have wide shoulders and arms, the engine tick but nothing can really be done about that, I HATE the breaks sometimes I can not even tell if my foot is even on the rear break. I wish they were much firmer, customization options are lacking and would really like to see a color gauge cluster. The worst thing I can not stand it the fact the turn signals do not have auto cancel, I guess to many years on a Harley. Aside from two things I HATE *turn signals and breaks* I love the machine and will probably end up buying three more for the wife and kids.

There are some great mirror extenders out there. I installed the Adventure Tech ones and they work very well and look stock. Forgot to mention, a very common brake upgrade is to change the pads to something else other then stock. I've heard it makes a huge difference and is very easy and inexpensive too.

If you change out your brake pads front and rear to EBC-HH you won't believe the difference it will make. Your firmer brake feel isn't going to really change but the initial feel and grab will. I'm sure that will please you. There are other pads also, but I went with EBC.

As far as auto turn signals. I had them on all of my Yamaha cruisers but for some reason they eliminate the auto feature on the sport bikes. Guess because we can change lanes so fast we don't need it,lol. You'll get use to it.

Funny true story. My ex was rideing her own Yamaha FZ1 awhile back. We were always telling her to shut her turn signals off. Then one day eating lunch one of my friends said they have a device called the blinker buddy. You install it under your seat. Whenever your turn signals are on it vibrates letting you know it's on. I replied " Charlie" this is my wife your talking about, she never turn off her turn signals with that seat vibrating.lol.

The one main problem is I can't see to find myself doing much but ride it at all these past couple of weekends :p I also am hearing the tick. I've owned it for about two weeks now and already have 1700 miles on it. :D
Thats just about the best way to go about owning a new bikes, getting well past the break in threshold. At least now you have greater confidence in the bike, not as much skepticism.
