Just wanted to get inside the heads of the owners here and wonder if you have any complaints on the FZ-10/MT-10. If so, have you figured out any ways to remedy them ??
I have one thing I don't like about my 17 FZ10 and that is the ticking engine sound. Cold or hot, it's loud. I can easily hear it thru my helmet.
I have 1100 miles now, so it's broken in and still the same.
I need to see what the dealer says.
Otherwise, awesome bike.
Have you guys had any dealer feedback on your engines ticking? I've read a lot on the R1 forums that the noise isn't indicative of a failing cam chain tensioner, but more of a normal byproduct of the finger-follower valve actuators. Some have also said that it's normal and only audible on the FZ-10 because it's a naked (I don't buy it). My bike started ticking recently, but I haven't had a chance to bring it to the shop. The ticking is louder sometimes than others but it doesn't correspond with variances in engine temp. The sound is uniform from one side of the engine to the other and changes consistent with changing rpm's. So I'm fairly confident it's not the CCT. Either way, I'm used to my CBR's whisper quiet valve train, so the audible ticking is a little unsettling. I should be able to get to the dealer next weekend. If anyone hears anything from their dealer, please share it on here. I'm curious what they have to say.Yep mine is ticking away at start up also. 2,200 miles later it's slightly louder. I had this same issue on my new 09 cross plane R1. It started at about 1100 mi. They had a customer complain recall on the cam chain tensioner. If a Customer complains only on the noise, but not a actual recall. If a customer complained about the noise they put a new updated cam chain tensioner in. I do have slight concerns on my FZ10's tensioner also. Time will tell. It goes away after warm any way.
Well, here's to flogging the piss out of my bike while it's still under warranty. You know, just in case it's not normal operation.Got a reply from my Yamaha Dealer Today on the ticking Engine noise.
They said Yamaha has not had any failures and that at this time, they are saying it's normal operation.
So nothing more can be done.
I guess just need loud exhaust.
There are some great mirror extenders out there. I installed the Adventure Tech ones and they work very well and look stock. Forgot to mention, a very common brake upgrade is to change the pads to something else other then stock. I've heard it makes a huge difference and is very easy and inexpensive too.Things I do not like = The mirrors are useless as I have wide shoulders and arms, the engine tick but nothing can really be done about that, I HATE the breaks sometimes I can not even tell if my foot is even on the rear break. I wish they were much firmer, customization options are lacking and would really like to see a color gauge cluster. The worst thing I can not stand it the fact the turn signals do not have auto cancel, I guess to many years on a Harley. Aside from two things I HATE *turn signals and breaks* I love the machine and will probably end up buying three more for the wife and kids.
If you change out your brake pads front and rear to EBC-HH you won't believe the difference it will make. Your firmer brake feel isn't going to really change but the initial feel and grab will. I'm sure that will please you. There are other pads also, but I went with EBC.Things I do not like = The mirrors are useless as I have wide shoulders and arms, the engine tick but nothing can really be done about that, I HATE the breaks sometimes I can not even tell if my foot is even on the rear break. Darn, you really didn't waste any time at all, I love it! >The one main problem is I can't see to find myself doing much but ride it at all these past couple of weekendsI also am hearing the tick. I've owned it for about two weeks now and already have 1700 miles on it.

Thats just about the best way to go about owning a new bikes, getting well past the break in threshold. At least now you have greater confidence in the bike, not as much skepticism. The one main problem is I can't see to find myself doing much but ride it at all these past couple of weekendsI also am hearing the tick.
