Being a veteran this Memorial Day observation has special meaning to me personally and as well I would like to thank our past and present veterans for the sacrifices they make so that we can enjoy the freedoms we do in our country.

This day while different in thought to Veteran's day being the observation of surviving veterans has always been the harder day for many thinking about friends and family that paid the ultimate sacrifice.

If you have a friend or family member to honor this Memorial Day may your day be filled with the memories and thoughts of the contributions that person made to both you and the country.

Memorial Day is always a day for remembrance for us as we've had several friends, and friends of friends that have served and not come back. So I'll be raising a glass (maybe more than one), and thanking all of the people that sacrificed their lives so that I can live mine.

I forgot to add something. If you haven't seen it there is a movie called "Taking Chance" that really will put Memorial Day into perspective for anyone. Personally I believe it should be required viewing for all High School students as well as anyone that has legally come into our country to become a U.S. citizen.

I don't personally know anyone lost in a war, but both my grandfather's and brother have served. I thank anyone who has/had the courage to put themselves in harms way to ensure our liberties are maintained here.

For anyone that has not watched Taking Chance, I also recommend it.
