How would everyone feel about having a search function that would let members look up other members by location? It's been a handy feature on other forums I've been on so that people in the same area can find each other and coordinate group rides, or look at aftermarket parts that have been installed, etc. The nice thing is that if you don't want to be included in the search, you can just leave your location out of your profile. Click on the poll and cast your vote.

I've seen some forums where members themselves created this world map with dots showing where everyone is and updating it accordingly. is it something like that?
I've seen those too, and they're awesome, but I'm more of a list kind of guy, so just having the ability to search the members by location is good. Super easy to 'add as friend' that way too.

There's a fine line between community and privacy, and no one wants to get 'hacked', but personally I find that a forum with a member directory that can be searched by State, or City is pretty handy. If you opt in and have your information listed, then members can find each other by location, which makes having a meetup or gathering easier.

It's also nice to be able to find other riders with the same bike that have done mods that you're thinking about doing, and being able to see them in person.

Just my $.02

I see what you're saying and that does sound like a darn great idea but I doubt the admins or whoever would implement it. And at that point, we would really have to push each member to put their location down and a lot of people skip that part of their profile.
