Jalopnik Three Month Review

Jonathon Klein from Jalopnik was lucky enough to get a FZ-10 for three months from Yamaha for a test ride and he doesn't seem to be very happy with it. Mostly from the throttle-by-wire assembly, but that's just something you can get used to and overcome IMO.

The 2017 Yamaha FZ-10 Is A Wild Everyday Commuter I Never Learned To Love

That being his only major complaint, it really isn't that bad of a review at all. He does claim it to be a very great performance machine though.

The FZ-10 is a great performance motorcycle with a **** of a soundtrack. Nothing can compete with its noise; it’s the best on the market. Period. Its handling is phenomenal and is quite comfortable for everyday riding, albeit only for a single rider. Everything adds up to what should be an easy recommendation.
You would think in the three months that he was riding it, he would have gotten used to the throttle though, no?
The fly-by-wire is not the funnest to get used to. I transitioned from a 2005 R1 to a 2008 R1, and it never felt right. The 2012 R1 I am on now is a little better than the previous model, but it is definitely not smooth.
I guess it's a small trade off for the improvement in tuning ability that the fly-by-wire offers us. I have read that flashing does help the condition, but have yet to try.
Will be interesting to see how that relates to how the increasing amount of owners will say about it and what bikes they come from. It's just too bad that at this point there isn't more feedback. Patience.
The three months have concluded and the editor is not a fan of the FZ-10 as a daily driver because there was a "lack of a telegraphed pickup point on the throttle-by-wire assembly, now a common feature on Yamahas. In other words, the throttle’s never smooth."

Well there seems to be a general consensus that throttle by wire assemblies aren't fun to learn or use. I've never owned a throttle by wire bike, so I'm wondering if there are any mods/flashes that may improve its functionality. Is this throttle exclusive to the brand new FZ-10 is it on the '17 model as well?

Trick I found when I owned a Triumph Explorer 1200. Super sensitive throttle, every bump in road changed throttle, twitchy, drove me nuts. This is the lube used in camera zooming lenses, when you focus the lens you feel the smooth friction from the lube. Temperature tolerant. Use this lube between the throttle grip sleeve and handlebar. Near perfect throttle response and no twitchiness.

Good tip definitely going to keep it in mind for when I get my FZ-10.

Thanks!
