I don't mind paying for the first service at all since I am basically a lazy owner when it comes to oil/filter changes etc, but I did notice something interesting that I thought was worth mentioning.

I decided to get the Yamaha extended factory warranty for a total of five years coverage but along with that they send you a card that they require you to bring in when you have required/scheduled services.

My understanding of USA warranty work is that they cannot require dealer only service to maintain the warranty and the proof falls to them to be able to prove a warranty issue was caused by negligence.

I tend to have most services done anyway but found it interesting that this was part of the OEM Yamaha extended warranty in the United States.

So you're essentially supposed to get that card signed or something whenever you take it in and if it isn't signed they'll not warranty any issues potentially?
Exactly, I do believe it's not legal in the USA

The Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act (P.L. 93-637) is a United States federal law.

I'll get it signed anyway but it was interesting to note they "make it a requirement"

It's almost like chevy and their whole "dexos" synthetic oil, they had to give free oil changes because it wasn't available to the public. I'm sure if it's all done by a certified motorcycle mechanic you can get away with it.
