ECU reflashed and my ride opinion

25468 Views 31 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  DaveInWoodland
Well I didn't expect my reflashed ECU to be in my mail box so soon from 2WheelDynoworks all ready. I mailed it out Monday late afternoon and got it back Saturday afternoon. I also installed the BMC raceing air filter at the same time. First I want to say if you haven't taken the gas tank off or the fake air box inlets ect, your in for a treat. Take your time with it cause you can break things, I didn't,lol. After I got the new BMC in I installed the reflashed ECU and I also installed the battery tender quick disconnect onto my battery. My stock battery just died on me and had to go to wally world for a new one. Even though the battery is probably still under warranty I needed my bike last week for a ride so my loss. When I started the bike and let it idle for a couple of minutes I had wacked open the throttle fast and the engine bogged then reved up. I thought that fuel inj engines don't do that? After the ride I tried the same fast opening of my throttle and it didn't bog ,just reved up? wonder what thats about?

Okay for the test ride today up blood mtn and the roads I usually travel on in my mountains. First thing I noticed is the quickness of the on off throttle responce in all three mods. Its worse! I mean when I let off the gas it feels like the engine shuts down. I thought from what ive been reading that all three mods smooth out from on - off throttle action? IM Not happy with that at all. Its less extream from std,A,B mode like stock, just more abrupt. Now im only running a slipon exhaust and a BMC air filter. Oh , the intake roar is alot louder and meaner than stock and has that nice cross plane intake roar, Im sure this beast is breathing better now. That BMC race filter is about half as thin as the stock filter material.

Now for the rest of the engine responce, If you thought your FZ10 pulled before, It will now pull like it has the advertized 160HP. Im not a wheelie guy, so I little by little wacked the throttle open in first and second and YEP she goes up quicker than before. When I did a few wide open runs I noticed my new red line when the rev limiter kicks in is now 12,500 RPM'S. My FZ10 definitly has more pulling power from about 4K's on up. I do notice some times there is a slight flat spot I never had before in standard mode in a low rpm high gear rollon I never had before. If I'm in A or B mode its very minute. I did a couple of 6th gear B mode rollons from 60-80mph and it definitly is quicker than stock was to me.

Gas mileage seems to be the same. So its not worse, but wouldn't be suprised if its slightly better if I lug it for a gas mileage run. That will be a later test.

I sat in my drive way when I got home and kept the FZ10 running to see how hot the eng temp guage got before the fan kicks in. It was rite on 210 deg when it came on and then the bike never went over 195 DEG. When stock my fan would't come on till something like 221 or so deg's.

Cruise control works just like before .

So im 80% happy with the tune but im going to give 2WheelDynoworks a call Tuesday and see If maybe my on off throttle responce and that slight dead spot in standard mode is being caused by the better breathing BMC raceing air filter? Or do I now need to get it dyno tuned to dial every thing in correctly? Ill get back with a answer.:nerd:

Yeah! I would have to agree on your thought of the bikes after market air filter as a possible problem. The program in your ECU is probably meant for a OEM filter.

Well he told me the flash was for a Graves slipon specifically. If they are open tomoro I'll find out.
info

Happy to read your report on the flash.
Did you get the dyno chart before and after the reflash ?When I had my supercharged Vmax the chart shows a lot of info and I think you will agree that when we pay for improvement our feelings are subjective.
Your report is complete with your experiences.Thank you.

I removed my ECU and sent it away to WA state. These guys do alot of FZ09 flashes also. I'll get some answers hopefully Tuesday as 2WheelDynoworks is closed on a monday. Also checking in at Marietta motor works about a dyno tune maybe sat if they got a opening.I had my Raider done by them awhile back. Excellent work.Stay tuned.
dyno

Thank you,I stay tune for sure because depending on the results you will get it will direct me on the good path !
Nels from 2Wheeldynoworks emailed me and asked for me to call him even though they are not open today! So I talked to him and found out I was supposed to disconnect both O2 sensors. The new guy working there forgot to insert a note telling me that. So Nels explained to me why they dissconnect the O2 sensors and how they mapped my ECU ,ect, ect. That was pretty good service if you ask me. But murphy has it raining here for three days so I won't get back with another test ride till maybe Thursday after work. I did order two 10mm O2 plugs to clean up the stock mid pipe a little. So apparently the area I was not happy with is because the O2 sensors are fighting the reflashed ECU and running to lean, ect. Ill get back in a few days with the results..:nerd:
Well I thought I let you guys know whats up since the ECU flash and am still dealing with one more problem . Well I finnaly got to ride my FZ10 with the O2 sensor's dissconnected. First I noticed that when I got to the entrance of my RV resort and came to a stop to see if I had my power mode in standard I noticed it was actually in B mode! I was amazed because here it is in B mode and no more low 10mph surging or bucking idleing out of my park. COOL! So I put her back in standard mode and started for the back twisty roads. Well no more flat spots like before in lower rpms. BUT!! my on-off bucking is still there. Its when im hitting a turn to hot( i think) and shut down the throttle and then the bike feels like it ran out of gas but doesen't , then I realize im not going that fast and roll on the throttle again rite away and bang , it lunges forward again like the fuel just came on, just like my old 2006 FZ1. I didn't have this problem with my stock ECU. I texted 2wheelDynoWorks back and left a phone message. I got a call back rite away from the new guy there as Neils the owner is off and busy dynoing bikes some where.I called again a day later and am still waiting a answer weather or not to send my ECU back and maybe they forgot some thing ?? Ill get back with some sort of answer this week I hope? Wish I had a friend with a stock FZ10 and we can swap ECU'S and see if its the Flash or my me making this up,LOL.

New updat, Nels at 2Wheeldynoworks said to send in my ECU to them. They even will pay the shipping! Hopefully we find out whats going on.
Good news

With your problems solved and the dyno chart, the light will be on !
A lot of dyno to fix all.
What is the total cost ?
Thank you.

No dyno tune. Just a ECU reflash and a graves map for my Graves slipon. I may get a dyno tune if this doesn't fix my problem and if I do I'll also get the air box mod that the guys on another FZ10 forum are doing. It's similar to the previous FZ1 generation air box mod.
Haveing my FZ10 dyno tuned this coming Saturday at Marietta cycle speed shop. I will get back and start a new topic section ,Dyno Tunes and Mods. So I'll be almost pretty stock. Just a slipon, ECU reflash,BMC raceing air filter, and the EXUP valve wired wide open all the time so far. So we will get a before and after dyno tune results. . I brought my 2014 Raider there and they did one he'll of a job tuning that.
Be back with results in 6 days.:nerd:
Dyno

Thank you to keep the information alive.Information is power, someone said!!!

If things don't get fixed for you, Marietta Motorsport should be your next stop. I was just there today to have mine flashed.
They did the flash and then dunk to get all the kinks out.

Love it so far.

They called me today and want me to come back because they figured out how to get my cruise control working again and the traction control to work again while my FZ10 is moveing between modes . But I already got my ECU back from 2wheeldynoworks and they got those items working for me. I could not wait.lol.

Sounds great. I like to compare the slip in the out put shaft in gear with mine and yours!
